From sleeping in the back of a news truck on the side of the road to the luxury of a 6 star hotel in Hong Kong.

From battling torrential rain in Tropical North Queensland to soaking up breathtaking sunsets in the outback.

From the grief and devastation of mass murder to dressing up as Santa and waving from the news helicopter.

In the process of news gathering I have witnessed the vast spectrum of human experience.

Spending 14 years as a full time news camera operator taught me many valuable skills.

Contending with the elements in unpredictable environments and under tight time constraints - technical troubleshooting becomes second nature.

Shooting in the field on the fly, I can creatively and efficiently film to capture the components needed to produce an interesting story.

Working alongside some of Australia’s best broadcast crew I have enjoyed witnessing the huge effort that goes into creating observational documentaries, reality TV, lifestyle and current affair programs.

Living in the home of the Gabba, Suncorp Stadium and nearby Metricon and CBus Super Stadium, I have been lucky to film broadcast sports for AFL, NRL, A-League and Cricket as well as NBL, Motor Racing and Lawn Bowls.

I am merely a small cog in the machine that is the huge team of people that put sport on the telly for thousands of viewers to watch every week.

A major highlight has been learning from and working alongside some of the best specialist camera operators in the country.

In 2013 I had the privilege of travelling to Tahiti for a documentary produced by Channel 9. “Teahupoo: Thunder on the Reef”.

This was shot during the Billabong Pro where I captured shots of surfers from the back of boats, while sitting on jet skis and purpose built towers in the ocean.

“Russell Howard Stands up to the World” is a travelogue documentary and involved 3 days on the road with Russell visiting local tourist destinations.

The final evening was a 3 camera crew filming one of his live stand-up shows.

Major Events

2019 France Women's world cup
Buenos Aires 2018 olympic youth games
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
Tokyo 2020 Olympics

An absolute standout of my career so far was having a front-row view of Olympic events and then interviewing the athletes.

Hearing their joy and celebration and witnessing their camaraderie was an honour. Attending the first ever Olympic skateboarding events and BMX freestyle event was an experience I will cherish.

The atmosphere at the FIFA Women’s World Cup blew me away. Stepping foot on world-renowned football pitches that I’d only ever seen on TV or in FIFA video games was unforgettable.

On home soil, I enjoyed experiencing a major event as the host country while covering news at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
